I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited to visit Hollywood when I travelled around the States last year. To me, this was the place to be in LA, it’s the birthplace of some of the most famous films in the world as it is the home of the US film industry.
You can find many studios here, alongside the mountain-topped Hollywood sign that peers over the city on top of Mount Lee. The sign is in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains and is a popular spot for hikers and tourists alike.
You won't believe it, but the area we know today as Hollywood wasn't always as densely populated. In the late 19th century, it was a small community and then it went on to boom in the early 20th century when the film industry was established in the area. Today the population of the area is just under 90,000.
It’s a very diverse area, where the rich and famous share their back gardens with those who are most in need. Homelessness is the one thing you wouldn’t think of when you think of an area like this, which is famed for its glitz and glamour. The walk of fame is one of the major attractions in Hollywood, but the attraction is flanked by rows of those in need - it's a sight you wouldn’t imagine when you think of Hollywood.
Alongside being the film capital of the world, there are also many other famous attractions such as the Capital Records Tower, The Kodak Theatre - which is the home of the oscars, Columbia Square and of course Sunset Boulevard.
This area of Los Angeles, may have it’s weaknesses with high crime and homelessness rates, but it’s an area not to miss if you’re in town. There's so many amazing attractions and sights to see. Why not visit the site of the old Hollywood Hotel or have a short drive to Venice beach on the coast, it’s an amazing district of an amazing city...
