HOW TO SURVIVE THE POST-HOLIDAY BLUES

ree

We've all felt it. After the relief that our return journey has been successful and that we're finally back stood in our house - comes the holiday blues. Most of the time we have returned to how life was like before our trip, with only our souvenirs and memories to hold on to. It can sometimes seem like 'what now'. You have returned to the exact thing you were doing before you went on holiday, but you now come to realise that you have no plans to look forward to, and it can be daunting. But fear no more.. I've come up with a useful list of tips to get you through the holiday blues!

1. Take a walk: When we exercise endorphins are produced and so you will naturally feel much happier and relaxed. Exercise is also good for your overall health and is a good way to clear your mind of any post-holiday worries you might have and it's also always good to just get some fresh air!

2. Surround yourself with loved ones: It's true that travelling turns you into a storyteller. So why not re-live those amazing trip memories with your family or friends. Show them your favourite moments or make them laugh with some funny moments - it's always good to share exciting experiences.

3. Get lots of sleep: This is true if you are also suffering a bit from post-trip jet lag. Talking from personal experience, jet lag can be a real killer. Adults are recommended to get between 7-9 hours of sleep per night so getting the right amount will leave you waking up refreshed and with a new lease on life.

4. Start scrapbooking: I've been doing this for quite a while now. I try to collect tickets or something similar from each trip that I've been on and turned those keep-sakes into picture displays in frames for my wall or I've put them in a scrapbook. It's a fun creative process and will make your reminisce about all the memories you had when you were away.

5. Get back into your routine: This one is the most important. You've more than likely been having a wail of a time on your holiday and forgot how things work in the real-life world that is back home. Getting yourself into your normal work routine as quickly as possible will make it easier to adjust to home life again.

Those are my top five tips to help you beat the holiday blues. I know the feeling and it's one you can't shake off for the first week back at home after your trip. If these tips don't help then you could even book your next trip (this I am so guilty of) and it'll come around more quickly than you might believe...
